In the hills of Mount Baker located in northern Washington State, I set out on my usual hike through the woods in the middle of nowhere. These images I captured, some were taken in a few public areas, some more desolate than others. I ended up on a trail that had seen very little human traffic in some time. It was quite scary at times, but there was a serenity to it. I hiked several miles through the brush on an overgrown trail, encountering a footprint here or there. There was a moment in the woods that I’ll never forget.
Silence.
Complete and utter silence. Not a sound from nature. No weather. No humans. No wind. No traffic. No falling limbs from trees. No rustling of leaves. No scurrying of animals. No breath. It was the loudest sound I’d ever heard. Silence.
In this photo set, which was taken in broad daylight, I realized that it made sense to do an album on the realms of life. Dreams, love, empathy, death, desire, sadness, despair, happiness, peace… and everything in between. There is no fancy photoshopping. Just light adjustments and camera lenses to convey what these images made me feel. I hope these images help you in whatever way they may.
